A well-finished basement can change how your home functions—adding space for a family room, office, gym, or guest area. Moonz Contracting provides basement renovations in South Portland and the Greater Portland area with a focus on practical planning and clean workmanship. Because basements are unique (moisture, insulation needs, and existing utilities), we start by understanding the current conditions, then plan the project in phases. The result is a basement that feels more like a real part of your home—not an afterthought.
Basement renovations are one of the most effective ways to add functional space to your home.
Basements require thoughtful choices so the finished space stays comfortable and performs well long-term.
Good sequencing reduces delays and helps prevent rework as the space comes together.
A finished basement should feel intentional and well-built—with details that hold up.

“Conscientious, professional & trustworthy! Excellent workmanship.”
“For context, the initial contractor I hired for my basement finishing project took my money and then ghosted me until he landed in claims court. Needless to say, it didn’t work out too well for that guy ;). So, I found Moonz Contracting via the Thumbtack app and chose them because they were highly rated. O’Neil remained professional, prompt, fair in cost, responsive, and a skilled tradesman the entire time. The subcontractors he hired for painting and electrical were great. Most importantly, O’Neil takes care of his customers and is a man of his word especially if/when inevitable mistakes happen.. Close to the end of the project, one of his former crewmen accidentally cut through a water pipe that leaked and damaged a large portion of the wall and some trim. O’Neil himself came over in between other jobs on weekends to repair it at no additional cost. I had already paid him for the project. He could’ve ghosted like the other guy, but he didn’t. He is hard-working and thorough. Another example: after the paint crew finished, O’Neil came in for a walkthrough and observed a couple spots that were not to his satisfaction and he promptly called the painter and had them come back out within a few days to button up some things. Also, a project like this takes months, with work and kids’ schedules, you need to be able to trust a person to come and go from your property when you’re not home. O’Neil is about as trustworthy as they come. He had full access to my home while we weren’t there. He and his crew were very respectful of our kids, too. I can’t say enough about O’Neil and Moonz Contracting. They turned my completely unfinished eyesore of a basement into what’s quickly become the favorite space in our home. We highly recommend!!”
